Dave Taylor

Dave Taylor, Programme Lead, Virtual Worlds and Medical Media Imperial College, London. Dave heads up a new unit at Imperial College developing the use of Virtual Worlds for Healthcare. He previously set up and ran the UK National Physical Laboratory’s Virtual Worlds business area.

Dave is a founder of the SciLands, a Second Life continent for Science and Technology and has managed many new media projects such as ‘Second Health’, a virtual hospital to engage clinician and patient communities and NanoLands, an SL network and islands for the global Nanotechnology community.

Dave’s career has spanned most of the major digital technology shifts of the past 30 years, starting with the personal computer revolution itself in the late 1970s and 80s. He pioneered the commercial use of the web in 1994 and became Vice President of Global Web for a leading multinational, setting up and running their multi-branded and fully localised eCommerce sites on a single platform. As Web 2.0 began to emerge Dave shifted his attention to online communities and virtual worlds applied to knowledge transfer and collaboration. Dave is a member of the British Computer Society and has a BSc in Mathematics and an MSc in Experimental Psychology.
